I remember that when I was in college everybody at my university was talking about one pair of sneakers to own and that was the Air Jordans by Nike. not only was michael Jordan the most popular NBA basketball player in the world but he also had his own shoe which not only was very popular but it was a very sturdy sneaker that was built to last. In this article we will take a look at the famed history of the Nike Air Jordan brand from the beginning to how it helped Jordan to create his own empire. Not everyone remembers this little bit of information but back in the early 1980's Nike was a company that was struggling just to get by each year. Their concept of the running shoe was slowly exhausting itself down year by year and it seemed like it was just a matter of time before they went out of business. They needed something to give them the much needed boost that could bring them back up again. Converse and Adidas were also interested in him but it was Nike that made a better offer to him. His original contract with Nike was for 2 and a half million dollars for 5 years plus royalties of course and other benefits.Of course those numbers changed as the shoes started to take off and they never looked back. The Nike ir Jordan was so popular in fact that 25 Lines of Jordans were made from 1984 to present. the latest version made currently was the 2009 Air jordan line and it came out early in 2009. The regular shoes were selling for almost 190 dollars while the beautifully designed special edition costs a whopping 230 bucks. This might seem like alot but for most athletes that needed a specific kind of athletic shoe designed for all sports it was well worth the price, plus the fact that it was an Air Jordan made them feel like that had the popular shoes that kept them with the in crowd at their schools. because of the historic popularity of Michael Jordan people from all generations wanted the shoes. not only is MJ the greatest basketball player of all time (in my opinion and many others), but his shoes definately followed suit as they both flew into the stars and never came back down to earth.
